Trstenik is not a destination you will find in most mainstream travel brochures. It's 'claim to fame' is largely due to its historical role in the transport of grapes from the peninsula's isolated southern vineyards. Thirty years ago the only way to transport grapes at harvest time was to load them on pack mules and carry them over the mountain to the wineries in Potomje, or along the steep southern ridges to Trstenik to be loaded on boats and transported by sea. Today, Trstenik's main attraction lies in its gorgeous, unspoilt location and preserved Dalmatian lifestyle. Trstenik is the port of call for ferries departing to the island and National Park of Mljet. It is also the home of the Grgic Vina winery, founded by Napa Valley winemaker and Croatian ex-pat 'Mike' Grgic.
Golden View House is a new, double-unit apartment perched on a hillside overlooking the sandy beaches and aquamarine bay of tiny Trstenik. The house is built on two levels. On the top is a large patio and BBQ area; below that the pool and living quarters. Ideal for a family with older children or two couples, the apartment consists of two units with large sliding-glass doors that open onto the pool and terrace. Unit one includes an open plan livingdining- kitchen area, and an upper level sleeping area with double bed and bathroom. Unit two includes two sleeping areas - one with double bed, one with twin beds, and a bathroom. Your hosts,Matko and Inga, can assist you with procuring local foodstuffs - wine, olive oil, fresh fish and produce. Matko is a winemaker himself. Be sure to visit his little wine cellar in the village and sample a bottle of his delicious 2004 vintage Plavac Mali. Upon your arrival, a light evening meal will await you - proscuitto , cheese, olives, tomatoes, peppers, bread and wine.
