Gourmet Lovran explores the landscape, food and culture of Croatia's Kvarner Riviera, a twenty-kilometre stretch of meandering coastline chiseled into the base of the Ucka mountains. Best known for its belle epoque hotels and villas, seaside promenade and restaurants, the Riviera dishes out an altogether different escape in our new Gourmet Lovran holiday. Highlights feature shopping for produce at the fabulous Art Nouveau market in Rijeka, cooking at a rural farmhouse in the hills above the sea, hiking in the Ucka mountains, and walking with a local herbalist. Here you will discover mountain meadows blanketed in herbs and rare wild flowers, forests of beech and chestnut, and karst ridges high above the glittering Kvarner Bay. A private walking tour of Lovran's seaside lungomare with its neo-Classical summer residences and gardens will give you a glimpse into the area's history and culture, followed by dinner and wine in the newly refurbished Habsburg-era Gradska Kavana. The five-course gourmet meal explores the gastronomy and flavours of the Riviera's distinctive regional cuisine. Influenced by the royal 'kitchens' of nineteenth-century Vienna, Lovran's culinary traditions remain deeply rooted in the foodstuffs and natural raw materials of the region - seafood, game and lamb, wild asparagus, mushrooms and truffles, chestnuts, cherries, figs, wild berries and honey.
Our Gourmet Lovran holiday features seven night's accommodation in the boutique hotel or residence of your choice, three private, escorted day-trips with personal guide and/or chef, car-hire and transfers, Gourmet Notes and maps. Included is lunch at a rural farmhouse, five-course slow food dinner with wine, and gourmet picnic lunch prepared from local, organic products - skuta cheese, wild nettles, mushrooms, truffles, chestnuts and game, wild berries and herbal tea.
