Surrounded by a chocolate box of sumptuous palaces and polished squares, the Stradun Apartments offer superb, upscale accommodation in the heart of the city’s historic Old Town. The apartments are located in a beautifully-restored Baroque townhouse, each on a separate floor, with contemporary open plan kitchen-dining-living area, bedroom and shower/bath. Cool, minimalist interiors and exposed stone walls create an air of understated luxury. Architectural details preserved during the building’s reconstruction, including a hand-carved Renaissance portal, blend seamlessly into the contemporary-classic makeover. Other features include hardwood floors, exposed oak ceiling beams, stone lintels, and designer bath fixtures and tiles. Casement windows open onto the cobbled street below and the stone facades of similar townhouses across the way. Apartments located on the first and second floors have the tallest ceilings. The loft apartment on the top floor has lower ceilings and dormer windows with views of the sky and pan-tiled rooftops.
The Stradun Apartments, named after Dubrovnik’s main pedestrian boulevard (pronounced ‘STRAW-DOON’), is steps away from restaurants, shops, tavernas and cafe-bars. All of the city’s famous historic landmarks, its palaces, churches and marble squares are no more than a five-minute walk from the apartments. Taxi boats to Lokrum Island (the best rocky beaches in Dubrovnik) depart from the Old Harbour every half-hour. For those who prefer pebble beaches, there’s a nice one just beyond the Ploca Gates, a ten-minute stroll down Stradun.
