Hotel Villa Kvaternik is a recently restored 15th century residence in the heart of historic Cavtat, a charming, picturesque Dalmatian town 15 minutes by car from Dubrovnik. Curved along the rim of a translucent turquiose bay, Cavtat has preserved its old historic buildings and traditional lifestyle. Narrow cobbled passageways, crowded with villas and purple bougainvillae, thread their way above the waterfront where palm trees, cafés and restaurants dot the seaside promenade.
Further along the bay, in a grove of ancient pines, is the 15th century Franciscan Monastery with its secluded cloister and tall, distinctive belltower. A few steps away, off a quiet cobbled sidestreet, is a walled enclosure and residence, the Hotel Villa Kvaternik. This small boutique hotel has six rooms with garden and sea views, its own private grounds, and a lovely flagstone terrace where breakfast is served al fresco. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed and the views of the sea stunning. The Australian-born Croatian owners and their staff will be happy to help you organise and purchase tickets for performances at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival which runs from mid-July to late August. Beaches, marina, shops, restaurants and cafés are all nearby.
Konavle, to the south, a wild and beautiful region of mountains, valleys and coastline, is famous for its natural springs and rivers, olive oil, orchards and organic farm products. Every Sunday (from Easter to late October), in the village of Cilipi, a presentation of Konavle's traditional folk songs and dances takes place following the ten o'clock service in front of the Church of St. Nicholas. A souvenir market displaying traditional Konavle folk costumes, textiles and embroidery is also fun to browse.
