The Bellevue is a gem of a property - two beautifully-renovated stone cottages at the edge of a quiet hamlet in the hills overlooking the sea south of Dubrovnik. This is Konavle - a region of sun-bleached mountains and fertile valleys that stretches south along the sea from Cavtat to Montenegro, and east into the hinterland and border with Hercegovina. The historic coastal town of Cavtat is five minutes away, and Dubrovnik with its palaces and medieval walls, another twenty five. Ideal for two couples or a family with older children, this property would also make a fantastic hideaway for a honeymoon couple. It features two adjacent cottages - a one bedroom and a studio - with contemporary open plan kitchen-dining-living rooms and luxurious bath and shower rooms. A landscaped rock garden of lemon and olive trees, rosemary and bougainvillea circumscribes a terrace and elevated loggia with panoramic views of the sea and countryside. A footpath from the hamlet leads into the open fields and down a steep track to the sea. It’s about a 25-minute walk/hike and access to the water is from the rocks. Alternatively, Konavle has a number of pretty sandy beaches, most notably in Mlini, Srebreno and Zal near Cavtat. Rock and pebble beaches are more typical of the area. Here along fragrant pine-fringed bays, the sea is a brilliant blue and as still and clear as a mirror.
Cavtat, with its open-air cafes and palm-studded waterfront, is a five-minute drive from the Bellevue cottages. Gleaming yachts and sailboats jostle in the harbour with fishing boats and old-timer Dalmatian ‘trabakul’. You can leave your car in one of the town’s designated parking lots and hop on a taxi-boat to Dubrovnik. They run all day long and offer a pleasant alternative to driving your own car and searching for a place to park in Dubrovnik’s expensive and crowded Old Town district.
